May Newsletter

What We've Been Up To...

Artwork and Belongings for the Year/Lost and Found
If you haven’t already done so, please bring a brown, paper shopping bag to take home all your child’s artwork and materials from the year.  Items that are left at school will be thrown away or taken to Goodwill.

Room Parents

Please consider being a room parent for your child next year!  This is such an important job and really helps with our sense of community we have here at Covenant.  If you are interested, please email me and I will pass your information on to the next year’s Parent Activities Coordinator, Sarah Haegelin.  If you are a frequent “emailer,” this is an EASY job to do.  It’s all about communication!

Sweet Home Covenant Photo Books

We have a few extra class photo books from the fundraiser that we are willing to sell -- $18 for one of $15 for two or more.  If you did not order one OR need an additional copy, please stop by the office and speak to Emily.

Enrollment Forms
Enrollment forms for the 2013-2014 school year have gone out, along with a reminder about your May 2014 prepaid tuition.  We had a very difficult time this past fall getting our enrollment forms in before the start of school, so please get your forms in EARLY so we don’t have to harass you come September!

Sweet Home Covenant Photos
If you were especially happy with your child's photo from the Sweet Home Covenant photo book fundraiser, you have the opportunity to order a print of your child's photo.  The office has additional order forms if you have not receieved one, or would like grab another one.

Meet the Teacher!

Jenny Carman

Meet Jenny Carman... the resident "floater" for Covenant Presbyterian Preschool!  Jenny is working her first year as a teacher at Covenant, but was on the PAT committee for two years.  Before coming to CPP, Jenny was a productions/operations manager for Science Magazine in Washington, D.C.  She has two children, Melea and Atley.  Melea was a Brainy Bear this year, and Atley is finishing up Kindergarten.

You might be surprise to find out that Jenny met her husband while racing cars.  He was her instructor at a racing school.  Jenny's favorite food is Sushi, or really anything Japanese!  She also loves Rallycross, which she explains as a "cheaper, redneck version of World Rally.  Their family doesn't have any pets, but they're looking for something her husband isn't allergic to!  Jenny's favorite cartoon character is the Coyot, because he never gives up trying to get that Roadrunner.

Jenny's favorite thing about being at Covenant is that she gets to connect with the kids, as well as being surrounded by such amazing peers.  We are so blessed to have Jenny as our wonderful and dedicated "floater!"

Ms. Jenny

Meet Ms. Jenny, the Fours Teacher for CPP.  This is Jenny's second year here.  Before coming to Covenant, Jenny was a full-time stay at home Mom for ten years.  Her family moved a lot during those years so she is thankful she was home to help ease those transitions.  Even before that, she was an elementary school teacher.

Jenny and her husband have three amazing children!  Paige is in middle school and plays the flute, as well as being involved in Girl Scouts and volleyball.  Reed is in third grade and loves all things related to baseball, especially the New York Yankees.  He also plays soccer and is involved in Cub Scouts.  Cooper is in Kindergarten and is a CPP alumni, having graduated from Ms. Lisby's class last year.  He is always on the go, playing outside with friends, riding his scooter and playing soccer and baseball.

Ms. Jenny loves Texas Longhorn football and can be found yelling at the TV right alongside her husband!  Her favorite foods are chips and queso, and when she has any spare time at all, you can find her reading or baking yummy goodies!  Her family has a Border Collie named Chipper and a cat named Sox.  Both are much loved by the whole family.  Jenny's favorite cartoon character is Mrs. Incredible from The Incredibles because her family reminds Ms. Jenny of her own, right down to the Girl/Boy/Boy make up.

Teaching at Covenant has been wonderful for Ms. Jenny.  Her favorite part is the co-op program.  She loves how it allows her to get to know her students' families and creates a strong sense of classroom community even beyond the classroom itself.

We are so blessed to have Ms. Jenny as our wonderful and loving Fours teacher!

Mary Watterson

Meet Mary Watterson, the Teacher Supply Liason and Substitute teacher for Covenant Presbyterian preschool.  Before coming to Covenant, Mary was working in retail as the Inventory Coordinator for The Container Store.

Mary has one son who attended CPP and is now a freshman at McCallum.  He is involved in the Fine Arts Academy, focusing on Visual Arts.  Mary's favorite foods are Ethnic foods, especially Mexican and Asian.  She also loves chocolate chip cookies!  Her hobbies include just being outdoors, riding bikes and hiking.  She also enjoys sewing and crafting.  Mary's family has a 17 year old black and white cat named Sparky.  They also foster kittens from the Humane Society.

Mary loves teaching at Covenant because she says "my energy level is maintained when I'm surrounded by all of the fun and enthusiasm children bring."  She also loves the variety in her day, and the fact that no two days are the same!  We are so blessed to have Mary working for Covenant Presbyterian Preschool.

Gayla Stuart

Gayla Stuart is the Director of children and preteens at Covenant Presbyterian Church.  She has been with Covenant for twelve years now!  Before becoming our children's and preteen director, she was the director for Sylvan Learning Centers.  Gayla has two CPP alumni who are "amazing!"  She says there's not much you would be surprised to find out about her, as she's an open book!  Her favorite food is Mexican and her hobbies are driving her kids around, working out, entertaining and traveling.  Her family has three dogs and her favorite cartoon character is Lucy.

Gayla loves working at Covenant because of all of the wonderful families!  We are so blessed to have such a wonderful and energetic director for our children!

Bible Units

Take some time to check out what Bible Unit your child is studying at school... You might find great opportunities to discuss what he/she is learning at home!

Most recently at Chapel, Christy finished telling the story of Noah and how God sent  a rainbow to remind us of His presence and promise to take care of us.  This is such a perfect lesson to hear at the end of the year as the children are soon leaving the preschool.  We always want them to remember that Jesus loves them and will take care of them no matter where they go.

Make and Take

Make and Takes have been such a blessing to us this year!   However, the Make and Take girls will be needing volunteers to help facilitate Make and Takes next year, so if you're interested in helping one month, please contact Kristen McDavid or Erinn Windler so they can keep your contact information for next year.  They also have a sign up sheet at the Make and Take table.

Extra! Extra! Read All About It!

If you weren't able to read the blog last time, please take the time to check out the link below.  While our kiddos are still little and not getting into Social Media quite yet, we thought this article was a really great thought to keep in mind for the future.  As the author says, we want our kids to be "guarding their hearts with scriptures from God's Word and reminding themselves [who they really belong to]," instead of "setting themselves up for insecurities" through postings.  It's a really good read, if you have time!

Covenant Happenings

Vacation Bible School

Kingdom Rock, June 17-21, 2013

Where kids stand strong for God.
Get ready for a week of faith, fun and friends. At Covenant's Vacation Bible School, kids learn about God and the Bible through song, taste, smell, touch and sight. It's a glorious week of fun activities that center around God. For more information, download the Parent Letter and FAQ @ http://www.covenant.org/vbs, then download the appropriate registration form and return the completed form to Stacey Grooms.

Wednesdays for Children at Covenant
On Wednesday nights from 6-7:30 children four years old through 4th grade are invited to meet with Coach Kelly for a time of very active games with a Biblical message. Midway through the evening the kids are divided into age groups to explore the Bible through story time, crafts, snacks and Bible story videos.
To reserve childcare for children three years and younger during Wednesday night activities, contact childcare@covenant.org.

Children's Choirs
Covenant offers children's choirs for children ages 4 by Sept. 1, 2012, through 6th grade. The choirs rehearse on Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. during the school year. In addition to experiencing the joy of music and singing, our choir members learn the importance and the excitement of being actively involved in worship. The children sing special music at worship services, present a Christmas program, and perform in our annual spring musical.
  • Choristers: 4th - 6th grades
  • Carolers: 2nd and 3rd grades
  • Sunshine Singers: 1st grade
  • Praise Makers: Kindergarten
  • Music Makers: Pre-Kindergarten

It incorporates food, games, computers, science, art, music and storytelling. The children are divided into groups according to grade and gender and are led by “Shepherds” to a different lab each week. The hands-on lesson presented at each station reflects stories being studied throughout the year.

There, the kids learn a Bible story and engage in activities that enhance the learning experience. Parents should pick their kids in in FE 300 at the conclusion of the worship service.
